Not only does it void the warranty, it is ilegal under USA EPA regs. Violation of the noise control ordinance that prohibits the tampering with or modifying of factory installed noise control devices. Fancy way of saying don't drill/gut/remove the muffler. Screw it, it's your bike, do whatever makes you happier with it.
Have fun, ride safe, watch for bacon bits (motorcycle cops, they have a nasty habit of sneaking up on you just when you crack that sucker wide open).
